Basic HTML and CSS-Sample Week

This is the first week of the course Introduction to HTML and CSS.
After interviewing junior high students, the biggest complaints I heard about learning how to code were:

  1. "It takes forever to actually get to build something"
  2. "It's boring. Usually, we just sit there and watch something online and try to learn it."

I also interviewed teachers and their bigget complaint was
"We want to teach our students how to code, but we don't know how."

Code School Curriculum takes care of all of these problems

Built with Bloom's Taxonomy and Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences in mind, this curriculum is hands-on and active. Students will not only be engaged, but they will reach the highest level of Bloom's Taxonomy. Don't believe me? Just try out Lesson 1: Introduction! Student's will also start code within the first few days of the course.

Welcome to Code School Curriculum!

I am so happy you're taking the leap to teach your students how to code!

Why I wrote Code School Curriculum

I taught junior high for 4 years in a low-income school. Every day when I would walk across the courtyard I saw so many of my students who had so much potential, but who would always struggle with breaking the cycle of poverty. I had heard of programs like Girls Who Code but knew because of my husband's schooling we'd be moving before I had a chance to get something like that up and running.
It came to me in the middle of the night one night that I should create a curriculum to teach middle-grade kids how to code. I wanted it to be a fun learning experience for the students, but also something that would be easy to teach for ANY teacher. I thought about how many kids this curriculum could reach, well beyond a club and my school.
If students, especially ones who come from a cycle of poverty, could learn to code starting in middle school, they could graduate with enough education to leave high school and get a well-paying job. Thus, breaking the chains of poverty for their family.
